A Quick Catch Up
Good God things have been manic here. And the countdown is on. There is now less than two weeks until I hand in my final project of the year.
Last Friday I handed in a report on Product Management. We had to research the sourcing, critical path, costing etc of the garment we were making in our main project. There was a slight hitch in that I hadn’t fully designed my garment (and still haven’t fully, its still developing) so I wrote it about another garment in my range, which was allowed luckily. The problem was that hadn’t been fully designed either, so I basically designed it as I drew the working drawing on illustrator. And actually it worked out quite well.
So thats over. Which is nice as I had absolutely no idea how to write a report of this kind. I have never done business studies or similar so it was new territory to me. I don’t know if I did it right or not as they didn’t bother telling us how to do it (not unsurprisingly) so I shall find out when I get my marks back.
Other than that I had a toile critique yesterday for my main project. As my design is a little unfinished, I was a little worried about showing my semi finished toile to my teachers. But they completely get me and my ideas and how at this stage at every project I lose all faith in my work and think I’m never going to get it done. And they loved it. And they gave me ideas for resolving the couple of technical issues, so I feel a large amount better about it.
I shall post a little more about the design itself soon. Its quite complicated and something I’ve never heard of being done before, so I’m pretty excited about it.
Anyway thats a quick catch up. I apologise for not having posted for a while, but now I need to return to work.

Tailoring Course!
I am just a little bit excited to say the least. I have just booked myself on to a Couture Tailoring Course at LCF in the Summer. You can read about it in detail here.
I have wanted to do this course for a few years now, since I did an introduction to fashion short course about 3 summers ago (crikey it really was ages ago), but I just hadn’t got round to it. This morning in my patterncutting lesson I grabbed my teacher and checked with him that I would have the basic skills for it, as it is labeled as an intermediate course, and he said yes he thinks it would be great for me!
So I came home at lunchtime (not skiving, we finished early), and booked my place! Now I won’t get confirmation until the money goes through, so fingers crossed that all goes smoothly and no-one swoops in and steals the last place or something in the meantime.
Its going to be brilliant! You make half a tailored jacket in a weeks course. You learn all the different hand and machine stitches, and learn about the construction etc. And you build up a massive file of reference work, to help you in future.
I can’t wait.
But I have to, it starts July 16th.

Eurovision!
I love Eurovison. The glitter, the campness, the trash. Its an excellent night of TV. Here are the acts you really should have seen (but didn’t because unlike me you have a life).
SWEDEN – The Ark
They sung in English, it was called ‘The Worring Kind’. Cheese is not the word. They were described as Glam Rock but that was basically because the lead guy is really effeminate, wears makeup and shiny things.
My favourite bit was when he ripped his feathered jacket off and threw it on the floor showing of his pre-pubescent torso to its fullest.
Check out a very dodgy quality video here, (haven’t looked if to see if you get to see his lovely body in it – oo, i just checked, and you do!).
FRANCE – Les Fatal Picards
I think the song was partly in English, partly in French, but to be honest I was so absorbed in the pink outfits and bald man’s dancing that I didn’t hugely notice. I do recall them actually being quite good for a comedic act. They don’t take themselves seriously, or take their shirts off, which is good.
Check out a dodgy quality youtube video of them here, and the video tells me their song was called ‘L’amour a la Francaise’.
GERMANY – Roger Cicero
A REALLY GOOD EUROVISION ENTRY! Yes its true!
This guy is brilliant. The kind of singer that’s really popular right now thanks to Jamie Cullum, Michael Buble etc. Worth checking out.
His dodgy quality youtube video is here.
UK – Scooch
To be honest they weren’t good and they weren’t bad enough to be good, if you know what I mean. To be fair, they were better than some we’ve had represent us in recent years. But the only reason I’m posting their picture is because they represent UK, and its about as patriotic as I get.
Can’t be bothered to find a link.
FATHER CHRISTMAS
Yes thats right! The man himself made an appearance at the Eurovision Song Contest! Wow. I’m overwhelmed with the excitement!
Surely he should be busy making presents for all the little boys and girls?

My Jeans Dyed
Here is the comparison you’ve all been waiting with baited breath to see…

Not bad huh? I’m rather pleased with them!

Today has been quite a productive day. Went to the gym this morning like a good girl. Did my first test piece for my complicated bag/garment in one thing I’m trying to go for uni. Then made flapjacks! I love flapjacks.
Right now I’m off to do my second test piece for my over-complicated project.
Blogging the pattern cutting book is still on my To Do list.

Dye Jeans Dye!
The thing I hate most about jeans is the colour fade. It drives me nuts! I like my jeans dark dark dark and skinny skinny skinny. Both my favourite jeans are Topshop Baxter jeans, they’re cheap, they fit well, they last ages but the colour fades so bloody fast. So today, finally I got round to buying some dye for them. My black ones I dyed around christmas time, so this is the second go, they aren’t too faded but they need refreshing.
My navy ones on the other hand…
…are no longer anywhere near navy.
I’ve tried several of the dylon dyes for various things in the past. The cold dyes, machine dyes where you wash them then add salt and the dye and then it gets everywhere etc. Recently they released Wash & Dye
…and they’re brilliant. I used the black to dye my jeans at christmas and they’ve barely faded at all, (I’m just really anal about them being imaculate). And its so simple. Put the powder in the drum of the washing machine. Put the fabric on top. Wash at 40C. When thats finished wash again to remove excess dye. And thats it. Simple. And effective. I recommend them.
My navy jeans are in the machine as I type. I’m then going to dye my black jeans.
When the navy jeans are dry I shall post a comparison.
(and worry not I haven’t forgotten that I need to blog about the Japanese Pattern book, its just been a manic week!)

Check Out…
Rock.The.Trend blog. I am thoroughly enjoying it at the moment.
Lots of good catwalk images.
In other news I have had a very productive afternoon (I thank the wine with Sunday lunch personally). I am really getting into this project. I’m still quite behind, as I need designs by Tuesday and haven’t even started designing yet, but I think its my best project so far. I’m really please with how my TWO sketchbooks (so far) are looking.
Also received a pattern cutting book all the way from Japan today, and its amazing. I’m in love. And gutted that I won’t have time to try any of it out for another month or so. Will blog about it in more detail later, probably tomorrow.

Don’t You Just Hate Missing Out?
Yesterday my friends and I had planned to go to Durrr at the club The End, but as we all realised yesterday the ridiculous amount of work we need to do, we decided against it.
Today I discover that not only was a friend of mine who I havn’t seen for months there last night but so was my favourite fashion blogger, The Facehunter! I am truly gutted. I would love to meet him. Oh well another time maybe.
On a more positive note I checked the Reading Festival website today and THE USED will be playing! Hurrah! I had a minor heart attack when I read that. There are also many other good bands added such as Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly. I think this is the best lineup for a few years, there are so many bands I want to see. Think there will be a fair few clashes sadly.
Right. Now I must get on with work.
